home sweet home
This town is so dusty that every time I open the back door, my feet go black with dust. And I'm not even stepping outside!

I spent a few hours outside, today. Waking at 730, I went to the market at the Prince of Wales Showgrounds and bought some fruit, some vegetables, a loaf of sourdough bread, and three potted plants. Then I went to mass in St Paul's and met some of the congregation, and got introduced to the choir members (of course!). Surprisingly they tell me that the St Paul's choir is alto-heavy, so they were all too happy to hear that I sing soprano. Funny, because I was all ready to apologize for singing the stereotypical part!

Then a quick trip to the Bendigo Marketplace (the mall), visiting the Asian $2 store, Big W's garden centre, and the butcher's.

At home I spent a couple of hours in the backyard, gardening -- and if you know me, you know that this is a minor miracle, because I dislike gardening, and I have not much faith in my ability to keep a plant alive. But since I spent that first hour uprooting weeds, I suppose it isn't out of kilter with my prior plant experience, is it?

Photo time!

The garden before the weeding ... lots of tall prickly weeds with yellow flowers on top, something in my mind yelled "dandelion" but I am really not sure what they are. In that bread tray are my three new pot plants with labels on them so I remember which is which -- Thai basil, hot chili, and eggplant.

The garden an hour and two garbage bags later; weed-free, and the sun's moved a bit. The pots are still there.

The Greek lady who sold me the pot plants told me that I'd have to repot them, because they'd grow too big for the small pots she sells them in. So I bought potting mix and three larger pots, as well as a little shovel for transplanting plants. I hope I didn't kill them by moving them into these larger pots, but only time will tell, I suppose. For now they look quite pretty in their colourful pots.

And now it's a bit past 2 pm and I realize I forgot to eat lunch, which explains why my tummy is rumbling. Oops.
